East Africa

The InnerCHANGE East Africa team began in 2008. Along with our local partners, we work among a community of urban refugees. Ezekiel 34 has been a significant passage for us. It gives a vivid description strikingly similar to the situation in our context. The text says that due to the harsh treatment of their rulers, the people...

“were scattered, because there was no shepherd, and they became food for all the wild beasts. My sheep were scattered; they wandered over all the mountains and on every high hill. My sheep were scattered over all the face of the earth, with none to search or seek for them.” Ezekiel 34:5-6

Working at a mid-point on the refugee highway, InnerCHANGE East Africa seeks to demonstrate the shepherd heart of our loving God through actions, words, and the power of the Holy Spirit.

  • We welcome people into community and friendship as well as provide opportunities for joy and personal growth by gathering around things like English teaching, basketball and soccer, computer classes, fitness training, and more.
  • We invite people to discover the truth about Jesus and partner with them in anyway we can as they seek to follow Him with their lives.
  • As individuals and as a community we pursue lives of deep intimacy with God. Out of this deep sense of intimacy we pray for and pray with our friends. Many have experienced extreme trauma so we invite them into the presence of Jesus for divine healing.

New Ways of Praying

Over the past year, I’ve gathered with a group of Kenyans in the empty storage room of a rec center to pray for our neighborhood. The room is dark and dank, and we all barely fit inside, but I’ve started to call it “the furnace” because I believe our prayer times radiate the love of Jesus out into the neighborhood.
